Pathetic Pinhead Wiki

By the way, I would be happy if you left sometime soon. I'm tired of your family living next door. We've loaned your father a lot of money. It may have been a hundred thousand dollars or more... Well, I guess it really could have been less, but because of the loan, my family and I now live in poverty!
~ Aloysius to Ness, about his family's loan.
I'm rich… And I'm only going to become richer. ...I'm going to be one of the richest men in the whole world. Enormous wealth...an unbelievable amount of money... Money that begets more money...money that grows more money... Oh, of course, if you have the money, then there's nothing you can't do! I just need more... more money...!
~ Aloysius to himself as he seeks to expand his business for money in Fourside in the novelization.

Aloysius Minch (in Japanese: Umbrami Minch) is a minor antagonist of the 1994 video game EarthBound/Mother 2 and the secondary antagonist of Saori Kumi's novelization for the game.

He is the oppressive patriarch of the Minch Family, acting as the ex-husband of Lardna and the abusive father of Picky and Porky. He is also the next door neighbor of Ness and his family, acting as their rivals. His abusive nature towards his children is partly to blame for Porky's downfall into villainy.

What Makes Him Pathetic?[]

In the game[]

  • He's shown to be an abusive father towards his sons, as he spanked them 100 times (Japanese version)/took away desserts for 10 years (English version), just for coming home late. His abuse towards Porky is ultimately (kinda) the reason how he follows a dark path into becoming a cataclysmic Pure Evil dictator in the future however at least Porky had an evil is cool vibe many comedic moments and some subverted sympathetic traits where Aloysius has none of the sort.
  • He harassed Ness' family when his father didn't pay back the loan Aloysius gave him, and complains how his family now lives in poverty, despite the fact that he is already wealthy as he has taken his wife to fancy restaurants beforehand.
  • He used his son to take over Fourside by manipulating the mayor Monotoli and was also seen surrounding himself with several loosely dressed women, showing that he's unfaithful to his own wife.
  • After getting betrayed and left behind by Porky, he is later seen drinking in a bar while telling Ness not to tell his wife he's here.

In the novel[]

  • He's even worse in the novelization, where he is a crooked businessman who conned Ness' father into signing a bad contract so he could enslave him and force him to make burgers 24/7, refusing to let him see his family much to their pain. He also has evidently commited tax evasion, embezzlement and fraud.
  • He's extremely greedy as he always want more money until he becomes the richest man in Eagleland.
  • He is also shown to be a terrible boss who treats his own employees horribly.
  • He regularly tries to hit on Ness' mother Rachael, despite the fact that he's already married.
  • He was aware about how Pokey becomes Giygas' vessel and yet he only cares about how he will benefit from such.
  • With the help of Pokey and Monotoli, he opened a restaurant named "Bio-Ness Burgers" which sold burgers to the town that were laced with Evil Mani Mani statues that Pokey laced in them, which would cause mass hospitalization, riots and even suicides.
  • His death is played with zero sympathy as he starves himself due to his own greed and stupidity, with Pokey marking on his grave that he is rotting in Hell like he should be.

What Makes Him a Pinhead?[]

In the game[]

  • He's shown to be a terrible liar as he claims Ness' family owes him a large amount of money and plays victim of it even though he's already wealthy.
  • All of his actions, ranging from trying to take over Fourside or inexplicity cheating on his wife, ultimately left him a divorced man who stays around the bar.

In the novel[]

  • While he is a feared businessman in Eagleland, this is not out of competence but rather of him being a spoiled elitist.
  • He is shown to be terrible in parenting as he gives gifts to Pokey and covers up his bullying behavior. This would cause Pokey to fall into a depression, leading to him thinking Ness and his family as more of one for him, while also leading to him becoming the sadistic and lonely delinquent he is now.
  • He thought it would be a good idea to confront Giygas, who is a cosmic entity terrorized the galaxy, and demanded power from him.
  • His decision to travel to the Deep Darkness ultimately leads to his own death.

Trivia[]

  • He's the only character from the Mother series to be PP as the other characters are either too sympathetic (Giygas) have too many entertaining qualities (Porky) or are too insufficiently stupid (Mr.Carpainter).
