Mayor Aloysius O'Hare is the main antagonist of Illumination's 3rd feature film The Lorax, an adaptation of Dr. Seuss' 1971 book of the same name.
He is the greedy and manipulative mayor of Thneedville, the founder of O'Hare Air, Morty and McGurk's boss and Ted Wiggins' arch-nemesis. Since The Once-Ler cut down all truffula trees, O'Hare has made a business by selling bottled fresh air, but when Ted Wiggins attempts to find a way to restore truffula trees, O'Hare decides to prevent him from doing that in order to save his business.
He was voiced by Rob Riggle.
What Makes Him Pathetic?[]
- In the first time he met Ted and his parents, he managed to scare them off just to get the seed from Ted.
- He is a greedy businessman that advocates for pollution over cleanliness, forcing people to buy oxygen tanks to breathe clean air. To make matters worse, he also restricts people from leaving town, just so he can continue to make money and prevent others from discovering alternatives to clean air.
- He shows no respect for people in general, from the protagonist Ted to his own bodyguards. He even threateningly touches Ted (who is only a 12-year-old boy) on the chest multiple times, wraps his arm around him, and drags him to a window to get his points across. He even breaks into other people's houses, giving him no sense of privacy or personal space.
- Although the movie itself is a comedy, and O'Hare is still humorous several ways, his funny moments were not really enjoyable comparing to other characters. In fact, it just makes him even more hateable even if it's not taken seriously enough.
What Makes Him a Pinhead?[]
- The only reason his business works is because the people of Thneedville were not very smart.
- Although he seems to be a businessman who somehow managed to monopolize air itself and made profit off it, which makes him competent, in reality he wasn't. It is because most of his innovations were given by his less idiotic employees, and he just used it for his own gain.
- He tells his delivery guy, Cy, that he will fire him if he doesn't get the people of Thneedville on his side in front of a whole crowd, not even considering the fact that it could give a him a bad impression towards them as well.
- Instead of embracing for the Truffle seed's growth like everyone else (which may allow him to make more money later on) or even waiting to remove the Truffle seed later on, he just mocks them in front of the crowd and sings "let it die", before getting sent away to his defeat.
- Just when he had the Truffula tree seed in the bottle of his hands, he decided to fit his hand into the bottle to get it, when he could've just made the seed drop out and catch it, showing how stupid he is.
- He barely comes up with any good plans, and instead just relies on his henchmen to do them.
- He lacks charisma, since he tried to turn the townspeople against Ted, but failed twice.
