~ Jaime slapping Black Walder after the latter provokes him |
Black Walder Rivers is a supporting antagonist in the HBO show Game of Thrones. He is one of Lord Walder's many sons, and a member of the despicable House Frey. He, along with his brothers, participated in the infamous Red Wedding, which lead to the deaths of Robb Stark, his mother, his pregnant wife, and the entiere northern army. Later in the show in Season 6, Black Walder is sent with his younger brother Lame Lothar to reclaim Riverrun from Bryden Tully a.k.a "Blackfish" who took it back as payback for the murder of his niece and king and the capture of his nephew Edmure. The two are later murdered and baked into pie by Arya Stark, who vowed to kill their father to avenge her family's death.
He was portrayed by Tim Plester.
What Makes Him Pathetic?[]
- He participated in the Red Wedding, being the one who slit Catelyn Stark's throat.
- He's sent along with Lame Lothar to take back Riverrun from the Blackfish, and attempts to convince him to give up the castle by holding his nephew Edmure hostage. They try to hang him first before Black Walder puts a knife on Edmure's throat and taunts Brynden, boasting about how he killed his niece and calling him a coward before threatening to kill Edmure.
- Refuses to give Edmure to Jaime despite the latter's poor state after being in captivity for a long time. This costs him a well-deserved slap from the Kingslayer himself.
What Makes Him a Pinhead?[]
- He and the rest of House Frey lose Riverrun to the Blackfish out of incompetence by poorly manning the castle despite being clear enemies of House Tully. Their attempt to take it back is also quite sloppy, taking very few men with them and not setting up a proper perimeter surrounding the siege, allowing Jaime and his troops to show up and catch them off guard.
- Makes a few dull threats towards the Blackfish by threatening to kill his nephew, which leads to a rather awkward moment where Bryden asks them to kill Edmure, the Frey brothers having not anticipated their threats to not be taken seriously despite how important of a hostage Edmure is.
- Provokes Jaime by refusing to give him Edmure despite the latter's poor state and their clear disadvantage on the field, to the point that Jaime has to slap him in the face with his gold hand to put him back to his place.
