~ Calvin Candie |
Calvin Candie is the main antagonist of the 2012 Quentin Tarantino revisionist Western film Django Unchained.
He is the ruthless owner of the Candyland plantation as as a monstrous slave owner. What Makes Him Pathetic?[]
- He is a very violent slave owner and a racist sadist towards black slaves, and he enjoys bullying them in various ways. He earned such a bad reputation that all blacks knew about him.
- He ordered two black slaves to fight to the death, and watched with sadism as one gouged out the eyes of the other and then finished him off with a hammer.
- When one of his black slaves, named D'Artagnan, refused to fight, he set dogs on him, who brutally mauled him.
- He is an arrogant narcissist who cares mainly only about his well-being, and is very disrespectful to those whom he considers inferior in status.
- Although he cares for his sister Lara, he also has too much affection for her, as it is implied that he killed her lover and also had an incestuous relationship with her.
- Although he tries to behave culturally and subtly, he does not always succeed, and often shows outright short temper and aggression.
- He threatened to smash Broomhilda's skull with a hammer if Django and Schultz did not pay him $12,000, and when they did, although he did not kill Broomhilda, he hit her hard on the fingers with a hammer, causing her severe pain.
- When he got everything he needed, he was going to humiliate Schultz anyway, and demanded that he shake his hand, otherwise Django and Broomhilda would be shot. This eventually led to Schultz shooting him.
What Makes Him a Pinhead?[]
- Although he is a Francophile, he actually does not speak French at all, and does not even know that his favorite writer Alexandre Dumas was black.
- It was mentioned that he is quite illiterate, and may not even be able to read or write.
- He didn't even know about Schultz's plans to save Broomhilda from him, and he only found out thanks to Steven.
- He tried to humiliate Schultz and force him to shake his hand, although he did not suspect that he might already be very angry with him because of all the abomination that he had done in front of him earlier.
