You know, I'd think you, of all people, would appreciate the benefit of living to fight another day.
~ Del Rio to Master Chief
I am ordering you... TO SURRENDER THAT AI!
~ Del Rio's breakdown, also his most famous quote

Captain Andrew Del Rio is a minor character in the Halo series, serving as a major character in Halo 4. He is a former captain of the UNSC Infinity, the most powerful warship ever built by humanity. Del Rio is known as being a competent by-the-book captain, but not being very good at inspiring loyalty among his crew. Del Rio commands the forces of the Infinity after it crash lands on the Forerunner shield world of Requiem and finds Master Chief. He asked Master Chief for a favor in escaping Requiem in the extreme urgent. He was later stripped down his rank as a captain and was promoted to UEG senator.

He was voiced by Mark Rolston, who also played Bogs Diamond in The Shawshank Redemption.

What Makes Him Pathetic?[]

  • He risked his crew's lives by attempting to rescue Master Chief and Cortana on the Requiem ring.
  • He's very impatient and cares mostly about returning the ship home than his crew's well-being, despite the many casualties and wounded.
  • Doesn't believe Master Chief and Cortana about the Didact's threat and thinks they're hallucinating. He also insults them by calling Chief a "bastardization of a soldier" and Cortana a malfunctionning AI.
  • Ordered Commander Lasky to dismantle Cortana because of her rampancy.
  • When Chief took Cortana with him, he angirly ordered Chief to give him back the chip. When the latter refused, he tried to order Lieutenant Palmer to arrest him.
  • By refusing to help Chief stop the Didact, he is endangering all of humanity, prioritizing his ship before the safety of others.
  • After being demoted, he made political hate speeches against Spartan-IIs by calling them "obsolete".

What Makes Him a Pinhead?[]

  • While he is a competent-by-the-book captain, most of his competence relies on following orders rather than giving them, which doesn't make him smarter than the average military. He is also known for being a terrible leader whom people lack faith in.
  • He endangers his entiere crew by going to rescue Master Chief and Cortana on the Requiem ring. He also doesn't care about the casualties and wounded and prioritizes returning the ship home.
  • He doesn't believe Master Chief and Cortana about the Didact and thinks they're hallucinating, despite the fact the Didact is threatening all of humanity.
  • When Chief takes Cortana with him, Del Rio yells at him and angrily orders him to give him back the chip. When Chief refuses he orders Palmer to arrest him, despite the fact Chief could take on litteraly everyone in the room bare-handed.
  • For abandonning Chief on the ring, Del Rio was demoted from his post, showing that refusing to help him stop the Didact was idiotic.
  • He was forced to stop his hate comments against Spartan-IIs after Chief's mission against the Didact was successful. It's also implied he was forced to take vacation and keep a low profile afterwards.

Trivia[]

  • He's the only character from the Halo series to be PP.
