| “ | Ah, you know your ancient Greeks. They understood that war is a god, a god who requires human sacrifice. And in exchange, war gives man purpose, meaning - a chance to rise above his petty mortal little self and be courageous, normal, better! | „ |
| ~ Erich Ludendorff explaining his motives to Diana. |
General Erich Friedrich Wilhelm Ludendorff, falsely known as Ares, is the secondary antagonist of the 2017 DC Extended Universe superhero film Wonder Woman.
He is a quartermaster general that displays a sadistic and destructive lust for war that actually makes him worse than the God of War himself Ares, causing the titular character to suspect him as the God of War.
He was portrayed by Danny Huston.
What Makes Him Pathetic?[]
- He executes one of his own captains just for requesting that he allow his soldiers to get some food and rest.
- Upon learning that the other German commanders plan to surrender and sign the armistice, he kills them all using Maru's gas. To further fuel his own sick sadism, he tosses one gas mask into the room to make them fight over it, knowing full well the Maru's gas renders the gas masks useless.
- He bombs a village with Maru's gas to execute all the villagers inside, despite these villagers not being a threat to him at all.
- He attempts to bomb all of London with Maru's gas, attempting a genocide that would kill millions.
What Makes Him a Pinhead?[]
- It's revealed that Ares was the one that gave Ludendorff his ideas for the weapons of mass destruction that Ludendorff would use in the war, and while he didn't go as far as to influence him, it does make Ludendorff seem less impressive, as he didn't come up with the ideas or tactics he used in war himself.
- When Dr. Maru gives him the vials of performance enhancer gas that give him immense strength, he starts wasting them recklessly, as he uses a vial after killing the German commanders despite there being no reason to do this.
- Considering these vials give him strength that puts him on par with a god, as seen when it allows him to briefly hold his own against Wonder Woman, there is no reason for him to be using them outside of combat, especially when there are only a limited number of them at his disposal.
- During his final fight against Wonder Woman, he chooses to climb the roof of the watch tower instead of going literally anywhere else to try and escape from her, leaving himself completely out in the open, which results in his death.
