Pathetic Pinhead Wiki

George Washington Duke is the main antagonist of film, Rocky V. He's a greedy and arrogant boxing manager who tries to manage Rocky Balboa and convince him to return to the ring despite his injury.

He was portrayed by Richard Gant.

What Makes Him Pathetic?[]

  • He's a greedy and smug boxing promoter who exploits boxers for profit and personal gain, with no regard for their well-being.
  • He keeps urging Rocky to return to the ring even though he can't due to his brain injury and doesn't want to. He even callously taunts him when he refuses his offer.
  • He corrupts Tommy and becomes his manager by offering him various things, including money. He's responsible for Tommy turning against Rocky.
  • He sets up fights so his fighters win, and Tommy is no different.
  • He tries to convince Tommy to fight Rocky and encourages him in street fighting.
  • He threatens to sue Rocky if he hits him and provokes him, which leads Rocky to deliver a well-deserved uppercut.
  • He's easily the most despicable antagonist in the Rocky Balboa films, as unlike other antagonists in the franchise who possess sympathetic qualities and "Evil is Cool" elements, George possesses none.

What Makes Him a Pinhead?[]

  • He's uncharismatic and an incompetent manipulator, as he's incapable of manipulating Rocky Balboa and can't convince him to let him be his manager. He only manages to corrupt Tommy due to the luxury items he offered him, not through personal charm, and also because Tommy proves to be mentally weak.
  • He doesn't hide his greedy and selfish attitude, as the main characters can see that he only wants to use Rocky Balboa.
  • He's not discreet about the rigged fights he organizes, as others can easily see how he set them up. This is evident when one of the journalists accuses Tommy of being a "paper champion" and how he doesn't compare to Rocky.
  • Even when Rocky backs down, he has the brilliant idea of provoking and irritating Rocky (who is a strong and skilled boxer), so Rocky decides not to care about the process and hooks him.

Trivia[]

  • By far he is the only villain in the Rocky Balboa universe to be approved as Pathetic Pinhead.
