“ | It's an ideology where you can kill people and you won't be punished at all. In fact, it pleases Lord Jashin even more if you do just that. | „ |
~ Hidan explains the way of Jashin. |
Hidan is a major antagonist in the Naruto franchise.
He is a member of the criminal organization Akatsuki, a group of rogue ninjas seeking to dominate the world through manipulation and capturing powerful tailed beasts. Hidan is an immoral, sadistic, and bloodthirsty ninja who revels in the act of slaughter. He views killing not only as a religious obligation but also as a source of joy. As an immortal shinobi, he takes pride in his inability to die, making him reckless and overconfident in battle. He is a partner alongside Kakuzu.
He was voiced by Masaki Terasoma in Japanese, and by Chris Edgerly in the English Dub.
What Makes Him Pathetic?[]
- The first thing we know about his background is that he murdered a large part of his village just because he was getting tired of the tourists and how peaceful his village was getting, so Hidan got angry that his village turned more into a tourist attraction, so he slaughtered innocents because of this, which is extremely petty.
- He is a religious fanatic whose religion is never treated as something to respect or admire. He has an undying devotion to the obscure and violent Jashin faith. He constantly talks about Jashin, to the irritation of even his fellow Akatsuki members, and is fixated on preaching his cult-like ideology to everyone he meets. His belief system is so warped that he considers anything less than total destruction of others a sin, turning his so-called “faith” into an excuse for pointless slaughter.
- His outbursts of anger ways paint him in a childish and shallow light. He becomes irrationally upset when things don’t go his way such as whether it’s over not getting the enemy he wanted to kill or being annoyed by his partner’s pragmatic attitude. Hidan's emotional immaturity is exposed multiple times, such as when he throws tantrums over things as insignificant as being ignored or having to deal with something he finds gross, like the smell of a lavatory. Despite his immortality, he comes across as a whiny, petty manchild who lacks any sense of control or dignity.
- He doesn’t even respect the Akatsuki, or their boss, Pain, even stating multiple times that he is only in this organization for his own purposes, and not because he actually cares. He even stated multiple times that he would like to kill Pain.
- He is one of if not the most sadistic Akatsuki member, which was best shown when he tortured asuma, by stabbing himself, then from the damage Hidan took, Asuma took aswell, which led to his tragic death, after Asuma died, Hidan openly stated how much pleasure his death gave him.
- He was very exited to deal the killing blow to Shikamaru as shown with his grin and his screams to the fact that he was going to kill Shikamaru.
- He is given a extremely pathetic death, he was outsmarted by Shikamaru and he then blew Hidan up with paper bombs, then after he’s thrown into a ditch with his body parts, all he could do is throw out empty threats and insults to Shikamaru before being defeated by rocks falling onto him permanently restraining him and defeating him.
What Makes Him a Pinhead?[]
- Despite his immortality and formidable curse technique, Hidan is still very dimwitted. His over-reliance on his immortality leads him to become cocky and careless. Hidan walks into fights without any strategic thought, relying solely on the fact that he cannot die, ignoring the fact that he can still be outsmarted or immobilized. His lack of adaptability and tunnel vision in battle cost him a lot.
- He almost never bothers to even dodge, block attacks or look over his sorroundings, as shown when 2 Jonin hit his vital spots very easily, or when Shikamaru captured him with his shadows from behind which led to Asuma chopping off his head, because again he thinks he is invincible because of his immortality.
- He has gotten very lucky multiple times in battle, as when Asuma beat him by chopping off his head, due to Hidan underestimating him, Hidan would’ve been permanently defeated if it wasn’t for Kakuzu being there to stitch up his head back to his body, His overconfidence and him underestimating Asuma is the exact reason he was defeated and he could’ve died.
- This is also shown in his fight against Shikamaru Nara. Despite being trapped by Shikamaru’s shadow technique multiple times, Hidan arrogantly refuses to learn from his mistakes. Instead of adapting, he recklessly charges into the same traps, falling for Shikamaru’s intricate plan to defeat him. In the end, Shikamaru outwits Hidan by tricking him into consuming Kakuzu’s blood, leading to Kakuzu losing a heart, after being outsmarted, Hidan shows his stupidity once again, when he realizes that Shikamaru’s chakra is almost done, he charges head on with his weapon completely unaware that paper bombs all over him and that Shikamaru could use them, this is exactly what happens, when Hidan is going to attack Shikamaru just uses his shadows to put the bombs that were all around Hidan and all around that forest, on Hidan, Shikamaru then detonates the explosive tags around Hidan, burying him alive.
- This incompetence on Hidan’s part was staggering—he allowed himself to be lured into a death trap because he simply couldn't imagine losing and because he didn’t even think to look over his surroundings not even thinking about the fact that Shikamaru could use the paper tags against him, displaying zero forethought or tactical awareness.
- He fails in social intelligence. He’s universally despised by his Akatsuki comrades for being obnoxious, and his constant boasting about his “religious” killings alienates even the hardened criminals he works with. His inability to grasp basic interpersonal dynamics makes him a poor teammate, particularly with Kakuzu, who has to constantly put up with Hidan’s laziness and stupidity. In fact, Hidan’s only value to Akatsuki is his powers, no one respects him for his intelligence or charisma. Hidan should’ve atleast realized that he was in a band of murderers that are just as bad as he is, the least he could’ve done is be liked by them, to ensure his safety
