~ Jake to the motel group. |
Jake is a major antagonist of Season 1 of Telltales' The Walking Dead video game series. He's the leader of a group called the Save-Lots Bandits who perform raids on communities.
He is voiced by Maxwell Zorbell.
What Makes Him Pathetic?[]
- He is a clear-cut Hate Sink who in addition to his unnecessarily horrible crimes, has an extremely unlikable personality as he has a violent temper and lashes out at even his own minions for the smallest reasons. He has absolutely no likable personality traits and is just an aggressive sadist. It is even seen that his fellow bandits don't like him because of his personality and even the St. John’s who are a family of serial killing cannibals have nothing good to say about him.
- He is not above extorting completely helpless people. First of all, he has no issue exploring a simple dairy farm for supplies and while the St. John's family are sadistic cannibals, they are still likely an innocent family from Jake's perspective. Additionally, he had no problem massacring a high school and is shown to point his gun at the children and Duck's mother during the Motor Inn raid.
- He commits many disgusting crimes completely unnecessary for his survival, especially gang-raping his fellow bandit Jolene's daughter to death and possibly raping Jolene as well, with the implication this was done for stealing a simple can of beans. Additionally, murdering his henchman and then repeatedly shooting his corpse is extremely petty since he just stole food.
What Makes Him Pathetic?[]
- While overall having some competence and many successful raids, this is mostly offscreen and the times he is onscreen do not present him in a competent light.
- Compared to most other antagonistic leaders from the series, he lacks any sort of charisma or manipulative skills to control his minions. It is even shown numerous times his minions do not like him.
- It is implied he was an adult who worked in a gas station before the apocalypse.
- He shows some poor grammar skills.
- He wastes ammo by repeatedly shooting his henchman's head in a fit of rage even after he is already dead.
- He unnecessarily kills his henchmen for small reasons such as stealing food, which makes performing raids harder since he has less people to work with.
- His raid on the Motor Inn is overall poorly planned. Instead of sneaking in, he loudly announces himself as he barges into the entrance, which gives Lilly and Lee a heads-up and gives them time to form a plan where Lee stalls Jake by pretending to bargain and giving Lilly time to shoot him in the head. The raid then completely fails as due to having no countermeasures all of his henchmen are picked off by the group or later zombies who sneak up behind them caused by the loud noises.
- He prioritizes his barbaric tendencies and sadistic desire to kill over extorting communities for their supplies in the long-term, which shows a lack of planning on his part.
