“ | Listen, everybody, I get it. Having your homes 30 feet underwater, probably not ideal. But it's not all bad. First off, we will pay you to move. So cha-ching for you, right? And you'll receive a one-time-only discount on water ski tickets for Lake Gladys. | „ |
~ Joyce's most famous quote. |
Joyce Crandall is the main antagonist of The Loud House episode "Save Royal Woods!".
She is the (now former) Michigan State Under Secretary of Water Leisure who wants to flood Royal Woods to create a sixth great lake in order to receive a promotion.
She was voiced by Christine Baranski.
What Makes Her Pathetic?[]
- She decided to destroy Royal Woods in order build a sixth great lake in order to get promoted to Over Secretary of Water Leisure, even though there were people still living there and don't want their town to be destroyed.
- She claims she's gonna name the lake after her mother Gladys, but it's more of an afterthought since she forgot to buy her a birthday present, and she's mainly focused on her promotion.
- On top of that, she sings a song "They Already Forgot About You", which is basically her mocking the entire town of Royal Woods, claiming that no one would miss it when it's gone, which is not only petty, but incredibly sadistic, and shows her apathy for the town's concerns.
- In fact, the only compensation the citizens of Royal Woods would've gotten were one-time-only discounts for water ski tickets for Lake Gladys.
- After a failed attempt from the townsfolk to build a Giant Flippee as an attraction, which resulted in her car getting destroyed, she decided to move the demolition of the town's dam to 9:00 am tomorrow, even though it was an accident, showing her pettiness.
- Even after Lincoln and the townsfolk sing about their experiences and memories with their home, Joyce was willing to go on with the demolition, even though the people were still there and could potentially get injured or killed.
- Despite her claims to want to raise tourism for the state of Michigan, it's clear that she only cares about getting her promotion, not at all concerned about leaving the townsfolk of Royal Woods homeless as a result.
What Makes Her A Pinhead?[]
- Despite her insistance that her plan would bring in tourism, it's clear that she really didn't think her plan through:
- Lisa mentions in the song "Right Where We Belong", that Royal Woods positioned on top of deposits of various minerals such as copper, nickel, iron, platinum, and freaking petroleoum, meaning that Lake Gladys would be too contaminated by the combined minerals to sustain any sort of marine life (like otters, like she apparantly intended.)
- Not only that, but because of the lake's potential contamination, any sort of water-related activities like swimming or water-skiing would've been impossible since the water would be unsuited for any of it. Meaning that instead of bringing in tourism, she most likely would've driven people away.
- There's no indication that she planned any sort of evacuation from the town, which means that she could've caused thousands of potential casualites, landing her in a boat-load of legal trouble.
- On top of that, she was willing to destroy the dam even though she (as well as everyone in Royal Woods), was still there, meaning that she would've gotten many people (including herself) injured or killed in the process.
- Her demolition crew turn on her after listening to Royal Woods' citizens sing about their good moments in their home, meaning that people really don't want Royal Woods to be gone.
- After her whole plan was exposed on TV, her boss calls her her out for trying to destroy a perfectly good, rising community, meaning that her plan was incredibly unpopular with the masses.
- And to add salt to the wound, it gives the indication that she didn't consult her superiors for it, meaning that her whole 'Lake Gladys' plan was illegal from the start.
Trivia[]
- She is so far the only character in The Loud House to be a Pathetic Pinhead.
