Lewis Prothero is the secondary antagonist of the 2006 dystopian thriller film V for Vendetta based on Alan Moore's British graphic novel of the same name.
He is a bigoted, self-absorbed television host who works for the Norsefire government, spreading their hateful and fascist propaganda. In the past, Prothero played an integral part in planting the seeds of Norsefire's rise to power by serving at the Larkhill Resettlement Camp, where he brutalized many of Norsefire's targeted citizens, including V.
He was portrayed by Roger Allam.
What Makes Him Pathetic?[]
- Early in the film, he defends and supports Norsefire's persecution of homosexuals and Muslims. He also makes it clear that he participated in the massacres against them.
- He served as commandant of the Larkhill Resettlement Camp, a concentration camp where all English inhabitants who did not conform to the Norsefire Party's Aryan ideal were victims of biological weapons experiments.
- He oversaw Dr. Surridge's development of the Santa Maria virus, which Norsefire used to kill thousands of people across the United Kingdom. He later uses his pharmaceutical company to "create" and distribute the cure. This allows him to pose as a hero, but he does so not for altruistic reasons, but rather for ego and attention.
- Despite taunting V on TV, he quickly becomes fearful when V appears, showing that he is nothing more than a cowardly braggart.
- Overall, he has no redeeming qualities or comedic moments, making him one of the film's most despicable antagonists.
What Makes Him a Pinhead?[]
- He has the nerve to provoke and insult V on TV and claims he wanted to confront him, despite him being clearly dangerous and feared. This is what leads to his death, as his stupid action attracts V's attention, whereupon he kills him in the bathroom.
Trivia[]
- It's currently unknown whether or not his graphic novel counterpart qualifies as a Pathetic Pinhead as well.
