Malty S. Melromarc, later known by the title of "Bitch" is the main antagonist of The Rising of the Shield Hero franchise. She is the former first Princess of the Kingdom of Melromarc and the archenemy of the series protagonist Naofumi Iwatani.
She is voiced by Sarah Emi Bridcutt in Japanese (who also played her in the franchise's stage play adaptation) and Faye Mata in English.
What Makes Her Pathetic?[]
- Years before the story began, Malty had her own little brother poisoned and killed in order to prevent an alliance with Siltvelt (since she hates demi humans), and she got away with it due to the lack of evidence presented against her. This would slowly break the bond between her parents King Aultcray Melromarc XXXII and Queen Mirellia Q. Melromarc as the sudden loss broke Aultcray down, which caused him to get easily manipulated by Malty.
- She "befriends" Naofumi Iwatani when he had no companions. After stealing Naofumi's entire property and equipment during the night, she appealed to Motoyasu that Naofumi was drunk and tried to rape her, then framed Naofumi as a sex offender. This would cause him to lose everything, including his reputation.
- She induced Naofumi and Motoyasu into 1:1 matches, and she magically caused Naofumi to lose the duel by cheating.
- She levied a lot of taxes on the town because of the circumstances in which the last wave was defeated.
- She ordered her knights to kill her own sister Melty and recorded everything while Naofumi tried to save her.
- She ordered her knights to burn a forest down.
- When the altered footage was played to the public and across the kingdom, Naofumi and his colleagues were considered criminals and made it appear that he thought he had brainwashed Melty.
- She refused to change or repent of her crimes, even when Naofumi spared her and Aultcray from execution via guillotine.
- She sold Rino, one of Motoyasu's team members, into sex slavery so that she wouldn't get in her way.
- She abandoned Motoyasu after the Spirit Turtle fight. Then, she manipulated Itsuki and Ren when they were at their lowest, before robbing them of their belongings and dignity.
- As petty revenge, she manipulated and conspired with the Whip Hero known as Tact Arusahorun Faubley. This would lead to both Atla, her own cousin, and Mirellia, her own mother, getting murdered by him.
What Makes Her A Pinhead?[]
- She likes to play with luxury, and when accompanied by Naofumi, she makes him purchase expensive equipment that is four times the price of Naofumi's equipment. She showed thoughtlessness pouring all of them into entertainment expenses.
- While she may seem smart, nearly all of her actions are poorly calculated and orchestrated as Malty only thinks about the short-term gain without thinking about the consequences in the long-term run, which is why she constantly loses.
- She is incredibly lazy and slothful, as she decides to manipulate so many people into doing her dirty work for her, while she just lays back in the sidelines.
- She doesn't study well and likes to hang out, so she's not very knowledgeable at all, as this is shown when Malty didn't even know "common knowledge" about her own kingdom during the battle with the Pope. Even when she was sent to the best schools to correct her behavior years prior to the story, she only graduated in virginity, which means that she seduced her way to the top instead of actually learning anything.
- She allied herself with the Church of the Three Heroes in order to kill Melty and take the throne of Melromarc for herself, and she did it without considering the fact that they would betray her as the Church planned to overthrow the Melromarc family as a whole. This just shows that even if she succeeded in killing off her sister and Naofumi, she would have lost anyways.
- She keeps on lying about her deeds when the slave crest kept on electrocuting her for every lie told during her trial, as she still insisted that she was right instead of sparing herself the pain of being electrocuted.
- She attempts to poison a pie meant for Naofumi, even though he built up a strong immunity to poison, which makes this decision utterly stupid. She also lied to Melty when she caught her sister in the act, despite the fact that she still had the slave crest on.
- She asked Motoyasu to ask Mirellia to make her a princess again, which is pretty stupid as the latter wouldn't just give her title back after every crime Malty has committed.
- Although marrying the Pig King of Faubley was something she reasonably didn't want to do, she needs to understand that Mirellia arranged it for political and diplomatic purposes, or else Faubley would have become a powerful enemy towards the Kingdom of Melromarc due to their advanced technology and because of Malty's schemes with Aultcray and the Church. Like Mirellia said, Malty got with the Cardinal Heroes to avoid being subjected to that fate, but she manipulated them instead of asking them for help. She also subjected Rino and her fellow team members to a fate she herself was trying to avoid in the first place. Overall, while this fate would have been beyond horrible, she brought it upon herself with her actions that would affect the entire kingdom, and she never showed any remorse over them.
- She's screwed over so many people so casually that she can't remember most of them. This made it incredibly easy for Rino, who she sold into sex slavery, to infiltrate the Third Army and exact revenge by killing her when she least expected it.

- To drive home Malty's Pathetic Pinhead status, her English VA Faye Mata has described her as the "King Joffrey of anime."
