President Stone: I said, open that door!
Elefun: NEVER!
President Stone: NOW! If you want something done right, you gotta do it yourself.
~ President Stone arguing with Elefun.

President Dufus Stone, better known as President Stone, is the main antagonist of the 2009 animated sci-fi film Astro Boy based on the popular manga series of the same name. He is the president of Metro City who threatens a war against the Surface Dwellers to be re-elected as president and he is also the arch-nemesis of the titular protagonist.

He was voiced by the late Donald Sutherland.

What Makes Him Pathetic?[]

  • He negligently caused the death of Toby (a child) at the start of the movie and showed zero remorse for it, which is a huge tear-jerker for the movie which punches the audience's guts. Plus, the reason why he got Toby killed is because he simply loves destruction over peace, which is why he had an apathetic reaction to the consequences of his carelessness.
  • He attempted to wage a war on the surface dwellers (who are homeless people) because he thinks it will enable him to be re-elected as president.
  • He has no qualms about harming children, as he interrogated and threatened Astro Boy's friends to know about the hero's whereabouts, causing one of them (Widget) to cry out of fear.
  • He recklessly rampaged throughout Metro City and destroyed hundreds of buildings and ships in a terrorist attack to kill Astro Boy, while actively endangering many innocents in the process.
  • While he has loads of comedic moments, they are meant to prove how much of a twisted and dangerous manchild he is, with Toby's death being a huge tearjerker for the movie. Plus, he is played surprisingly seriously whenever he has to commit any heinous crimes in the film, making him a dark antagonist for a kids' movie villain.

What Makes Him a Pinhead?[]

  • His motive is the textbook definition of absolute idiocy, as he wants to wage war on the homeless for the sake of winning an election to stay as the president of Metro City, which would only lead to him losing the election, not winning it.
  • During the scene where he describes his viewpoint on good and evil to Dr. Elefun, he says that in any conflict between positive energy and negative energy, the latter always wins, which is a very black-and-white opinion on morality (and by extension, the whole world). He also refuses to listen to other perspectives on the topic due to his tyranny, narcissism and obsession with reputation.
  • He dumbly placed the Red Core into the Peacekeeper out of a lust for power, and due to his recklessness, he got a child killed as a result. He also refuses to own up to his mistake afterwards.
  • In the climax, he commits a hefty ton of stupid and self-destructive acts that make him look like an idiot, which include (but is not limited to) the following:
    • Fighting Astro Boy (who has far more superpowers than him) and being unable to take on him in their battle, even when he fused with the Peacekeeper.
    • Going on a riot throughout the city, knowingly putting many lives in danger but refusing to care for the sake of his own selfish behaviour.
    • Using a building to attack and try to kill Astro Boy by swinging it at him like a baseball bat, giving any authorities an easy chance to arrest him.
    • Pretending to shoot at the citizens of Metro City even after being defeated and having his Peacekeeper powers stripped away from him.
    • Attempting to have Grace arrested just for kicking him in the shin (albeit in a well-deserved manner).
  • Overall, he does whatever he wants with zero self-control or restraint and his big ego and lust for power largely contribute to his ultimate defeat in the long run, which ruins any good plans he may have had at the start.
