I'll tell you why. My ancestors were humiliated during the Civil War. I am the fruit of their humiliation. When the Germans came, I knew they were bringing justice and order for the white man.
~ Metze's justification for joining the Nazis.
This is what they call poetic justice, Joe. You could have had a decent life taking a dive on the field for the Reich. Now look at you. A limp dishrag groveling on the floor. Before I shoot your brains out, any last words?
~ Metze to Gunslinger Joe before his death.

Übercommander Roderick Metze is the main antagonist of the Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus's first DLC, Wolfenstein II: The Adventures of Gunslinger Joe. He is a former dentist turned member of the Nazi Party, and is the archenemy of the DLC's protagonist, Joseph "Gunslinger Joe" Stallion.

He was voiced by Dwight Schultz.

What Makes Him Pathetic?[]

  • Even before joining the Nazis, he was a dentist with a notorious reputation who casually tortured his patients out of sadism.
  • He joined the Nazis in order to wipe out the local resistance and minorities, and prove the superiority of the white race.
  • He helped fellow Übercommander Michael Rademaker to organize a bombing campaign that flushed out the resistance in Springfield, allowing the capture of sixteen fighters.
  • He captured the leader of the resistance, who is also the father of Joseph Stallion, and made him worked in the mines of Hillsboro until he wore out. It's heavily implied Metze killed him later on.
  • He had a project of creating the perfect sportsman for Germany by capturing and mutilating several African-American men.
  • When Joe goes after him, Metze goes into hiding in Venus while intending to use the Sun Gun to destroy the Midwest to wipe out the resistance, in order to get a promotion.
  • While he seems to care about his ancestors as they're humiliated back in the Civil War and wants to avenge their honor, it's most likely he only sees them as extensions of his humilation, and feeling that his pride is wounded.
  • It's apparent that even his subordinates and colleagues don't like him too much as they see his projects are a waste of resources and time, even intending to kill him and make it look like an accident, only canceling the plan when Joe decides to take matters into his own hands.

What Makes Him a Pinhead?[]

  • His project of creating a superior sportsman for Nazis is considered a waste of time and resources.
  • He mispronounced Reich as "Reish". While it is somewhat of a joke, it just shows that he is stupid.
  • Just when he has the chance to kill Joe, he decides to leave his henchmen to deal with him, which leads him to kill them and escape.
  • He literally tried to destroy the ENTIRETY of the Midwest with the Sun Gun just to wipe out the resistance, not caring potential causalties in his attack.
  • He managed to sneak attack on Joe and holds him at gunpoint during their confrontation, yet Metze decides to take his time to mock him instead of killing him on the spot, which allows Joe to attack and kill him.

Trivia[]

  • Metze along with Rip Blazkowicz are the only Pathetic Pinheads in the Wolfenstein franchise.
