MacDonald "Mac" Gargan, better known by his alias Scorpion, is a major antagonist in the 2018 action-adventure superhero video game Marvel's Spider-Man and a minor antagonist in its 2023 sequel Marvel's Spider-Man 2.

He is voiced by Jason Spisak.

What Makes Him Pathetic?[]

  • He is a sadist that loves hurting and murdering people for the sheer sake of it, having committed multiple crimes when he was both a teenager and before he became Scorpion.
  • Unlike all other members of the Sinister Six who has somewhat sympathetic or on their part understandable motives for joining up with Doctor Octavius (Rhino wanted his suit removed, Electro wanted a harness to get him a little closer to his big pipe dream of becoming pure energy, Vulture wanted his spinal cancer cured and cares for his daughter, and Mister Negative equally wanting revenge on Norman Osborn like Otto, as well as being given special made pills to help him with his Mister Negative persona and try to suppress it), in comparison, Scorpion was in it solely for money, having his gambling debts conveniently erased off every record and murdering Spider-Man out of sheer sadism. And while he was forcibly experimented upon, this doesn't make him tragic or sympathetic since he was already evil even before that.
  • He helped Electro, Rhino and Vulture, cause chaos at The Raft and completely destroying the inside of the prison, which culminated in their severe physical beating of Spider-Man (which both broke 14 of his bones and Scorpion himself was the one to stab Spider-Man which knocked him to the ground and led to his physical beating), while taking clear enjoyment in it like Electro.
  • He drugged Spider-Man at the reservoir while taking sadism in giving him horrible hallucinations which is slowly killing him as it created nightmares that his brain thinks are genuinely real (such as hallucinations of Otto taunting and making him feel worthless, making vile offhand comments about Uncle Ben and even criticises Peter and MJ’s relationship), all in a pathetic attempt to torture him.
  • Tortured two Sable Agents alongside Rhino (even stabbing one of them, after briefly pretending yet blatantly not, of trying to be faux affable towards both of them), while also unnecessarily insulting Rhino by referring to him as “inelegant” even if overall, he’s not exactly wrong, but the petty insult was unnecessary and pathetic.
  • Constantly insulted Rhino during their fight with Spider-Man, which culminated in Rhino smashing him into a shipping container after Spider-Man beats them both, due to being sick and tired of Scorpion’s verbal abuse and needless aggression.
  • When being put onto the prison boat to be taken to Ravencroft, when one of the Prison Guards asked Scorpion to hurry up, he taunted him by trying to whack him with his tail (even if he failed to do so due to his restraints, and smugly laughed at the nervous Prison Guard) then continuing his walk afterwards.
  • After Kraven’s Hunters attacked the prison boat transporting Scorpion and Mister Negative, Scorpion plays on Miles’ good heart, by pretending to be a Prison Guard in a locked door slowly drowning to death, so Miles can free him. Even after Miles frees and saves his life, Scorpion drugs him like he did to Peter two years before, and laughs while throwing him into the wall, to hallucinate his worst fears as well as quickly drown to death.
  • Pathetically taunted Kraven after stabbing him, due to believing himself to have the upper hand (because Kraven was meant to see his worst fears after Scorpion stabbed him), by saying “Have a nice trip” with a smirk on his face, which quickly backfired and Scorpion, and leads to his well deserved albeit brutal death, for everything he did and all the people he hurt or murdered.

What Makes Him a Pinhead?[]

  • While responsibility is equally shared with Otto, poisoning the city reservoir was a far from smart idea (solely because it was an Oscorp owned property), because at that point (due the Devil’s Breath crisis) the reservoir was New York’s only source of water, thus there would be no safe water for Scorpion himself to drink let alone trying to let the majority of a city’s population poison itself to death. Plus, while Otto likely hoped that Norman would get the blame in some miraculous way, solely himself and Scorpion would be held accountable for doing it, because only Scorpion had the known resources to poison a city reservoir and the fact that he was blatantly in the area/on the tiny reservoir building to attack Spider-Man, would’ve also given it away.
  • He thought it was a great idea to start bullying and taunting Rhino, who is far bigger and stronger than him in comparison, during their fight against Spider-Man, which culminated in him hypocritically blaming him for not beating Spider-Man, and Rhino angrily shoving him into a shipping container and getting into a fight with him in there.
  • He attacked and drugged Miles after being freed by him (also being saved from drowning to death in the process), which was an incredibly stupid thing to do, as it already shows what an ungrateful bastard he is and it also shows how badly he underestimated Kraven and his Hunters, considering Miles and Peter would’ve (and were going to) protect him from them to further save his life. Instead, this causes him to be captured by Kraven’s Hunters and taken as a prisoner as part of Kraven’s hunt.
  • He underestimated Kraven to an inexcusably ridiculous degree, as he murdered one of his Hunters as a weak attempt to scare him (which obviously very much failed), jumped and stabbed him with his tail, while being very much defenceless, as it allowed Kraven to easily pull off Scorpion’s tail, knock him to the ground, smack him around a bit and then stab him in the stomach with the end of his tail/stinger. Overall, Scorpion could’ve been way more strategic but chose petty sadism over survival (only to suddenly become a cowardly wreck in his last minute of life once Kraven literally disarms and humiliated him), proving he doesn't think before he acts.
  • Overall, he is a reckless and cowardly idiot, who while powerful and fearful enough whilst having a tail attached to his back, as soon as he’s at a disadvantage he immediately runs off or fights back but in a pathetic way (like running away from Rhino after annoying him too much only for Spider-Man to trap them both in a shipping container until they “learned to play nice” and being completely humiliated by Kraven, to the point he became a near broken wimp in a near instant to the point he could barely land a punch on Kraven, who easily blocked it) and is all bark and no bite, and once he loses his cyborg tail, he is completely defenseless and doesn't even bother to use his razor-sharp claws to fight back.
