Steele is the main antagonist of 1995 film, Balto. He is an selfish and narcisist Alaskan Malamute and leader of the local village sled team, he is Balto's arch-enemy and rival, whom he intimidates due to the fact that Balto is half wolf.
He is voiced by Jim Cummings who also voiced Hadrian in Minecraft: Story Mode.
What Makes Him Pathetic?[]
- In the first scene he appears in, he cheats in the sled race: trying to bite one of the rival dogs which causes the rival sled team to crash.
- Hes is a cruel and jerkass bully who has repeatedly bullied Balto because of his part-wolf heritage.
- Due to his arrogant and selfish nature, he is completely hated by the other dogs on the sled team.
- He steals the sausages to try to get dinner with Jenna, and then frames Balto for stealing the sausages just as the butcher and a man with a flashlight show up to investigate.
- He keeps harassing Jenna without caring about her feelings.
- He tried to kill Balto to stop him from taking the medicine to the city.
- He sabotages the path so that Balto and his team cannot return, which would have caused the death of several children because of the disease, although Steele doesn't care.
- Because of his actions he becomes the outcast and is hated by the others in the Town while Balto becomes a Hero, it is clear that he will die alone but this is not interpreted in a sympathetic way.
- He is not Charismatic or a Master Manipulator, as other dogs only admire him because of his status and popularity and not because of genuine charisma, as other sled dogs hate him and talk badly about him when he is not around.
What Makes Him a Pinhead?[]
- He's not a good sled leader since he relies on cheating to win the race at the beginning of the film, there's a human character who talks about this, which infuriates Steele.
- He as a terrible sense of direction and makes his team get lost in the middle of the blizzard, which later leaves him and his team trapped because he decides to follow a random direction without worrying about what might appear in front of him.
- His refusal to let Balto help him bring the cure is not only cruel but also stupid, since if he had let Balto help him he would have taken the credit or else he could use his popular status to manipulate others and gain more credit and glory than he should, but he does not do it purely out of pride and selfishness, besides Balto knew the way back and Steele not letting him help and even killing him would only make him and his sled team continue to be lost.
- His sabotage plan although it seemed clever on paper, was not that great and also tampering with the marks left on the trees by Balto would not have worked anyway, since Balto would have using his half-wolf heritage and smelling the trees he marked and the sled team would be able to return.
- He's not a good liar with a not very convincing performance and he only deceives other dogs due to his popularity status, with the exception of Jenna who is the only sane one who sees through his lie.
- His lie about the sled team dying was not well thought out: he didn't even think that the team might be alive and return home where his lie would be discovered and the dogs would see him for what he really is, which is what happens in the end.
Trivia[]
- His voice actor, Jim Cummings is the same as Hadrian of Minecraft: Story Movie, who is another Pathetic Pinhead. Even more ironically, they were both approved the same month.
- There is a deleted scene in the film where Steele would suffer a horrible death at the end of the film, this scene was cut because it was considered too dark.
