~ The Soldier deliberately refusing to listen to Walters' order to spare Maria seconds before killing her in front of Gerald Robotnik and Shadow, as well as his only line. |
The unnamed G.U.N. soldier is the overarching antagonist of the 2024 film Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
As his name implies, he is a man who works for G.U.N. who was sent by the government to detain Gerald Robotnik and Shadow the Hedgehog due to the latter's dangerous scale of power. Despite this, he took the life of Gerald's granddaughter Maria Robotnik just to spite him, even when Commander Walters demanded him to leave her alone, which led to Gerald and Shadow harboring a hatred of humanity and attempting to destroy Earth with the Eclipse Cannon to avenge Maria.
He was portrayed by Barry Calvert.
What Makes Him Pathetic?[]
- He raided Gerald's base to detain him, which endangered the lives of Shadow and Maria in the process.
- Alongside his team of soldiers, he chased the trio through a corridor to capture them before pointing his gun at them with the intent to kill. When Commander Walters tried to stop him from killing them, the soldier refused to listen and justifies his action as "following orders" before firing his gun at Maria, only to miss and hit an energy tank instead, which caused an explosion that killed Maria and presumably several other people.
- While it's unknown what happened to the soldier after the explosion, he was either fired by Walters for child murder or killed by Shadow as revenge for killing his only friend in cold blood right in front of him.
- His actions are the direct cause of Gerald and Shadow turning evil and attempting to destroy the world in Maria's name.
What Makes Him a Pinhead?[]
- While it's true that the government issued him an order to shoot Gerald and Maria, the movie clearly goes against his actions as Commander Walters couldn't stand the thought of someone hurting a child and went out of his way to try and stop the soldier from killing Maria, rendering his actions too vile to be excused. It doesn't help that the other soldiers attempt to hold him back as well, showing that not even they would ever deliberately kill children.
- He is shown to be needlessly reckless, as he actively disobeyed Walters' demands to spare Maria and shouted at him before firing his gun anyway, only to miss his target and hit an energy tank and, as a result, blow up the G.U.N. facility thanks to his impulsiveness.
- Although his fate is ultimately inconclusive, he had no chance of getting away with his crimes either way, as he may have survived the explosion but lost his job due to killing Maria. Alternatively, he is implied to have been killed by Shadow, who was furious at the soldier for causing the death of his best (and only) friend.
- Overall, if he had just listened to Walters and left Gerald, Shadow and Maria alone, the events of the third movie would have never happened as Gerald and Shadow wouldn't have even turned into villains in the first place considering that Maria's death is their motivation for becoming evil.
- Basically, all the bad things they do is the soldier's fault, meaning his unwarranted cruelty leads to problems that are traced back to him.
