Hello, this is my first proposal and as you can see I am Brazilian so my English may not be very good, so sorry if this proposal is not very good
Note: This proposal is for both 1984 and 2011 versions
What's The Work?[]
Footloose is a 1984 American musical drama film, The film tells the story of Ren McCormick, a teenager who moves from Chicago to a small town where he discovers that rock and dancing is prohibited and tries to change that.
Who's The Candidate?[]
Chuck Cranston is one of the main antagonists of the film, he is the abusive and jerk boyfriend of Ariel who antagonizes Ren when Ariel begins to show romantic interest in Ren, as the film progresses he goes from being a simple jerk to a more serious threat.
What Makes Him Pathetic?[]
- Unlike Shaw Moore, who is an anti-villain and a well-intentioned extremist who bans dancing and rock because of the death of his son and Ariel's brother, Chuck has nothing redeeming or sympathetic about him, he's just an abusive jerk.
- It's clear that he doesn't care about her and that he only manipulates her feelings after her brother's death so she can get into his pants, showing himself to be very rude and aggressive with her even when she only shows concern.
- He is quite petty as he challenges Ren to a game of chicken just because he gave him a mocking response back, and also begins to defame Ren's image by spreading rumors and making him be accused of using drugs, all because Ariel showed interest in Ren, being one of those who harasses ren the most because of his campaign to make dancing legal.
- He assaults Ariel when she gets tired of his abusive behavior and admits that he was going to break up with her.
- He is a complete coward who never personally confronts Ren and needs his "henchmen" to try to harass him, and at the end of the film he and his group attack Willard who just wanted to go to the party.
- Overall he's just an abusive, petty, cowardly bullie who has no redeeming qualities or comedic moments and his defeat is played with satisfaction
What Makes Him a Pinhead?[]
- Hitting Ariel is not only heinous but also idiotic, since Ariel is the daughter of Shaw Moore who is an influential and important reverend in the city who could get Chuck in trouble, the only reason he doesn't get screwed is because for some reason Ariel doesn't tell her father that he hit her.
- He is a pathetic, terrible fighter who has to attack Ren and Willard with a 5-2 advantage and even so he loses, he lands a few blows on Ren and Willard but they both resist quite differently from Chuck and his friends who are defeated without much difficulty.
Preventions?[]
None, the only "Evil is Cool" moment that i can I see is Jim Youngs' performance in the 80s version of the film, other than that nothing else.
Final Verdict?[]
Yes for me, I think he qualifies although he appears to be just an antagonistic jerk that appears in 80's movies, he demonstrates real malice and villainy, he is like a younger version of Curley: a cowardly bully who antagonizes others for any reason and they are also idiots with no charisma who only exist to pick on the protagonists.
