Shido, Kamoshida, now this guy? Wow

What Is the Work?[]

Persona 5 is a Japanese roleplaying game created by Atlus. It’s about a high school student named Ren Amamiya aka Joker who moonlights as a phantom thief (Plus his fellow Phantom Thiefs) who steals treasure from palaces to change people’s hearts to reform society.

Who is He?[]

Junya Kaneshiro is the main antagonist of the third heist in Persona 5 but a minor antagonist in the game overall. He is a crime lord and a member of The Conspiracy aka the Antisocial Force.

What Makes Him Pathetic?[]

Kaneshiro is the living definition of a slimeball. Irredeemable, greedy, smug and loathsome. In fact, he sees people as walking ATMs, according to his palace.

Also, he blackmailed students into selling drugs. Yes, students. Worst of all, he put several teens in huge debt just because of his avarice.

(TW for SA mention here) Worst of all he threatened to sexually assault Makoto Nijima, who is only 17-18 years old. (end of tw)

Finally, his “insecurity” about his appearance and growing up poor is played for zero sympathy, since he only used it to guilt-trip the Phantom Thiefs very poorly.

What Makes Him a Pinhead?[]

To get the elephant out of the room, Kaneshiro is not at all good at making a good image of himself. However, pathetic pinheads like Shido and Kamoshida can do so. Wow… he must be such an imbecile even amongst imbeciles. Also, the only thing he did was hide in the shadows to prevent being investigated.

Second of all, him blackmailing Shujin students into drug dealing shows he only choses minors. This shows he’s a rather weak manipulator and he can only manipulate the young and naïve. Unimpressive…

Also, he failed most of his goals which shows his incompetence.

Lastly, he’s truly a manchild beneath his inflated ego. He pathetically begged for mercy from the Phantom Thieves when they clearly would never forgive him. Even Yusuke said he’s “Beyond redemption”.

Migrating Factors[]

While Kaneshiro doesn’t really have any “Evil is Cool” moments or charisma, he did have some funny moments. During his boss fight, he was dancing like a rapper which is rather funny. However, that’s only a minor factor and intended to emphasise on his ego.

Also, Kaneshiro has a cool palace theme song, which is beloved by fans. However, it’s barely enough to balance his despicability, since the entire game has pretty good music.

Therefore, he’s pathetic enough.

Final Verdict[]

A soft yes
