Metze-Dentist

Yikes, I can tell you that this guy is a piece of work.

I'll tell you why. My ancestors were humiliated during the Civil War. I am the fruit of their humiliation. When the Germans came, I knew they were bringing justice and order for the white man.
~ That explains a lot.

Well, hello everyone. I am back with another proposal, ta-da! Today this proposal is about another Pathetic Pinhead which in my mind could qualify. It appears that Rip Blazkowicz wasn't the only PP in the Wolfenstein series. Behold, Übercommander Roderick Metze!

What's the work?[]

Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus is a 2018 action video game where you fight Nazis in a occupied America. The DLC expansion Freedom Chronicles includes the story of Adventures of Gunslinger Joe where Joseph Stallion, an African-American football player who aids the resistance against the Nazis and seeks to find his missing father, who is the leader of said resistance group. Only one man stands in his way: Enter Roderick Metze.

Who is he?[]

Roderick Metze is the main antagonist of the story. Born to a family who sided with the Confederates during the Civil War, Metze was the son of a preacher and also grand dragon of the KKK. Taught by his father that the Aryans are ordained to commune with God and that the other races are inferior, Metze felt that his ancestors were humiliated in the past and seeks to bring honor for them. As a dentist, Metze has a notorious reputation for torturing his patients. Joining the Nazis during the occupation, Metze rose through the ranks to become a Übercommander. He aided fellow Übercommander Michael Rademaker to organize a bombing campaign that flushed out the resistance in Springfield, allowing the capture of sixteen fighters. The leader of the resistance, revealed to be the father of Joseph Stallion, was captured by Metze and sent to work in the mines of Hillsboro until he "croaked".

When Joe was arrested for scoring for his team during a game against Metze's team, Metze has him arrested before recognizing him as the son of the resistance leader he arrested years ago. Decided to send him to Research Station Omega for his project to create the perfect sportsman for Germany, by having black people sliced limb from limb. After Joe broke out, they met again in the resistance hideout. When Metze holds him at gunpoint, he decided that he wasn't worth killing and leaves for his henchmen to deal with him, which allows Joe to kill them and escape. Angered that he was humiliated by a slave like Joe, Metze puts Joe's father in the Secret Police headquarters, waiting for him to rescue him, so that he could trigger the bomb within the building to kill them both, but they both escaped (although Joe's father died regardless, stated by Metze that he is six feet under).

Escaping to Venus after realizing Joe is after him, Metze intends to use the Sonnengewehr, the Sun Gun, to destroy the America Midwest to wipe out the resistance (which would also kill everyone else in there), out of his desire to rise through even more ranks. Joe manages to stowaway onto a rocket headed to Venus, and goes on another rampage to reach Metze. When heading to the control room, Metze surprise attacks Joe by shooting him in the chest, wounding him. As Metze takes his precious time to brag and taunt him instead of killing Joe on the spot, Joe takes the opportunity to tackle him out of a window, leaving Metze fall to his death while killing off the remaining Nazis and escape Venus.

What Makes Him Pathetic?[]

Definitely. While not as pathetic as Rip, Metze regardless is a pretty awful person in general. He joins the Nazis as he is a white supremacist and even before that, he is a dentist who regularly tortured people out of sadism. It's also apparent that his subordinates and colleagues don't like him too much as they see his projects are a waste of resources and time, even intending to kill him and make it look like an accident, only canceling the plan when Joe decides to take matters into his own hands.

While one argues that he cares about his ancestors as they're humiliated back in the Civil War and wants to avenge their honor, it's most likely he only sees them as extensions of himself, and that his pride is wounded.

What Makes Him a Pinhead?[]

He is definitely not bright despite being a top commander within his ranks. He is good at marksmanship, and dentistry (which he uses to torture). But other than that, not so much. Let's go over them:

  • His project of creating a superior sportsman for Nazis is considered a waste of time and resources.
  • He mispronounced Reich as "Reish". While it is somewhat of a joke, it just shows that he is stupid.
  • Just when he has the chance to kill Joe, he decides to leave his henchmen to deal with him, which leads him to kill them and escape.
  • He literally tried to destroy ENTIRETY of the Midwest with the Sun Gun just to wipe out the resistance, not caring potential causalties in his attack, just to get a promotion.
  • He managed to sneak attack on Joe and holds him at gunpoint during their confrontation, yet Metze decides to take his time to mock him instead of killing him on the spot, which allows Joe to attack and kill him.

Yeah, definitely a pinhead.

Final Verdict[]

A big yes!
