Pathetic… in both a writing standpoint used for his son’s Freudian Excuse, and a pathetic person too.
“ | You were ‘messing with him’... the way they said? Why would you do that sh*t… to a boy! You some kind of f**got?! | „ |
~ He cares more that his son raped a boy, than the fact he’s a rapist |
Have been debating if he is stupid enough to qualify but here goes, maybe he can join his son here.
What's the work?
13 Reasons Why is a Netflix series adapted from a book that revolves around the suicide of a teenage girl named Hannah Baker.
Who is he?
The Unnamed man sometimes referred too as Mr. de La Cruz is the father of school bully Monty de la Cruz (and Estela who is randomly added into exisitence in S4) who he frequently abuses and turned him into a violent psychopathic and homophobic rapist (yeah, blame the dad.) He doesn’t appear much onscreen but he is mentioned in Seasln 2 when Monty got assault by a hammer from him and had to spend time homeless.
In Season 3, he finally appears and drunkenly screams at Monty and berates him, only for Monty to assault him with a night stick and Clay to witness. Upon hearing his son is a rapist, he gets mad that his son committed rape… towards a boy, and spits on him, then leaves him in jail. He is completely forgotten about and never mentioned again.
Is he pathetic?
100%. He's a blatant homophobe who abuses his son every chance he gets and calls him f***got. He believes just because he works for his family that means they owe him everything. When his son gets arrested for violently raping a boy, he scolds him, not because he commited rape, but because he did it to a boy specifically.
It is also told to us that his teenage son Monty (somehow!) was a more responsible man and took better care of the house then he ever did.
He has absolutely zero charisma, likable qualities, competence, etc.
Is he Hatable?
He's both a Hate Sink and a Scrappy yes. He’s hated intentionally and unintentionally. Like you literally can’t get worse than that.
What Makes Him a Pinhead?
I was questioning if he was stupid enough before making this considering his Karma Houdini status but ultimately I think he might just show enough of a pinheaded personality with his lack of screentime. He doesn’t even bother to cover up his son’s injuries and openly leaves him wandering around with a scarred eye or broken arm, which obviously traces back to him. People like Bryce are aware of how abusive he is because it’s blatantly obvious and he could easily get found out (yet somehow doesn’t.) He never shows any skill in covering up his crimes or attempts to do it and the only reason he never got arrested is pure luck. It’s not like he comes from royalty like Bryce and can just use that to get away with his crimes.
the other thing is that every time he is onscreen he’s a drunk mess and one time we see him belittling his son and psychologically abusing him, which leads to Monty grabbing a nightstick and beating him to a pulp. This was completely stupid on his part and he is aware his son is a violent person (thanks to him) and the fact he always carries a weapon around him. He has nothing to gain from this except being an asshole.
He’s also poor and works a terrible job so he’s likely not a competent worker. And additionally as aformentioned, it is said Monty had to take care of the house by Estela, since Mr. de La Cruz is a manchild.
Verdict
Weak yes
