Jack Welker

He's not as stupid as his nephew, but I still think he's worth discussing.

I'll be honest, you caught me in one hell of a good mood. So here's what's gonna happen; You're gonna get in your car and you're gonna drive out of here, alright? No hard feelings. Understand me? We square? Hey, man, I gotta know we're square or I'm gonna have to go that other way.
~ Bottom line is, he killed his former subordinate's brother-in-law right in front of him and this quote proves that he couldn't give less of a shit about the misery he inflicted on Walt, only loving the power he has over others.

Well, what do you know? I've got another Breaking Bad villain to bring to the table. Ever since Don Eladio and Todd Alquist were rejected and approved respectively last November, I couldn't think of any other villains from the show who fit the PP criteria other than Spooge and his lady, but I'm planning to propose them at some point in the near future. In the meantime, let's tackle a...controversial candidate, and I'm talking about the slimy, hypocritical and narcissistic Nazi gang leader himself: Jack Welker. Sure, he's not an easy or obvious candidate like Todd, but I think he has some stupid feats of his own. And since this guy might be divisive...let's just get this over and done with.

Let the discussion begin!

What's the Work?[]

I'm sure everyone knows what Breaking Bad is, but for those who don't, it's a show about a chemistry teacher named Walter White who is down on his luck until he is diagnosed with terminal lung cancer and is given 2 years left to live, resulting in him becoming a wealthy drug lord and the biggest one in not only America, but also history in general. By further extension, the show also has a prequel called Better Call Saul which covers the backstory of main character Jimmy McGill and how he became the corrupt lawyer he is today: Saul Goodman.

Who is He?[]

Jack Welker is the final antagonist of the show who serves as the fifth season's main villain. The leader of the Aryan Brotherhood (a gang of Neo-Nazis) and sororal uncle of Todd Alquist, he is known for ruining Walt and Jesse's lives by killing the former's brother-in-law Hank Schrader even after being ordered to spare him and taking the latter in as an unwilling slave to cook meth for him and his gang, leaving Jesse with lifelong PTSD after 6 months of enduring physical abuse and torture from Jack.

Is He Pathetic?[]

Pathetic? That word might as well be his middle name!

To get the heaviest elephant out of the room, he is a Neo-Nazi who is implied to have committed tons of crimes before the events of the show, and one of the things he did was raise Todd Alquist, his sororal nephew, into the monster he is. As a result of Jack's actions, Todd would kill a child, have Jesse enslaved by the Aryan Brotherhood, and kill Andrea Cantillo to punish Jesse for trying to escape Jack's compound. His worst act, however, would have to be murdering Hank Schrader in front of Walt even when the latter insisted on sparing him by offering Jack $80,000,000 to save his brother-in-law's life, only for Hank to refuse and basically sacrifice himself by letting Jack kill him, knowing he "made up his mind ten minutes ago". A heinous deed that is a close second is kidnapping and enslaving Jesse Pinkman for 6 months, and during that time, he would have him beaten and tortured by his gang and when Jesse tried to run away, he punished him by having Todd go to Andrea's house and manipulate her into being shot in the head while a distraught Jesse was forced to watch. Jack even goes as far as threatening to kill Brock if Jesse ever tries to escape again. He also temporarily ruined Walt's life as well by causing his family to blame him for Hank's death and stealing his drug empire from him, causing Walt to leave Albuquerque for 6 months and go into hiding.

In the series finale, he tries to have Kenny kill Walt when he came back to save Jesse, and once the Neo-Nazis are gunned down and Todd is strangled to death by Jesse, Jack attempts to stop Walt from killing him by telling him the location of his remaining money and that if he killed him, he'd never find it. Walt, being the avenger he is, ignores Jack and shoots him in the head mid-sentence as punishment for murdering Hank and Steven. Even though Jack was killed, he indirectly killed Walt as the latter had to sacrifice himself to shield Jesse from the machine gun he used to slaughter the Aryan Brotherhood.

All in all, he's one of the most heinous villains in the show, even being worse than Hector and Lalo Salamanca personality-wise.

What Makes Him a Pinhead?[]

He's not ridiculously stupid, but it's safe to say that he's not Albert Einstein at all. Let's see what he's got in terms of stupidity:

  • While he does sometimes succeed in his plans such as killing Gus Fring's enforcers in prison, making profit in the meth business, killing Hank and Steven, and expanding his criminal reign from Heisenberg's empire, it's only due to assistance from his more competent and skilled gang members rather than independent intelligence.
  • Although serving as a corrupting influence for Todd might sound intellectual on paper, all it did was make Todd an idiot as he committed several mistakes that could have destabilized his gang's reputation and credibility, such as needlessly killing a child, failing to acknowledge that his enemies don't harbor any sort of affection for him and frequently putting his own life in danger out of carelessness, meaning Jack turned an originally normal Todd into a sheer dummy.
  • Being a proud Neo-Nazi, he is openly honest about his racism, which only leads to people disliking him greatly.
  • He tells obvious lies about having standards, such as claiming to hate brutality even though he abused and tortured Jesse on a physical scale for six whole months.
  • He deliberately refused to surrender to Hank and Steven when they told him and his gang to put their guns down, causing a shootout that could have easily killed him if not for pure luck on his part. Speaking of said shootout, he only won because of his gang's help, proving that he's not a one-man army at all as he cannot even fight his own battles.
  • He tried to kill Jesse for snitching on Todd's murder of Drew Sharp when Todd was in the exact same room as him, culminating in him stopping Jack from executing Jesse with ease.
  • He is wholly aware of Jesse's burning hatred for him, but he just makes their already terrible relationship even worse by taking him to Andrea's house and forcing him to watch Todd kill Andrea for trying to escape his compound before threatening to do the same to Brock if he tries to escape again. It must also be noted that Jesse only complied with Jack due to fear, not because he was charmed by him.
  • When Walt confronts him to rescue Jesse, he brings the latter into the room to purposefully show Walt what he did to him, which only further motivates him to defeat Jack and free his beaten and broken slave.
  • He failed to realise that Walt planted a machine gun in the back of his car, causing him to get gunned down and nearly all of his gang members to be killed instantly with the exception of Todd, who was later strangled to death by Jesse.
  • Even after he was mortally wounded (meaning he was going to die from the gunshot wounds either way), he still foolishly pleaded Walt to spare him by telling him where his remaining amount of money is, despite knowing that Walt would kill him anyway to avenge Hank and Steven's deaths, which is exactly what happens.
  • Overall, he commits loads of self-destructive acts with zero hesitation or restraint, killing whatever good plans he may have had at first.

Final Verdict[]

I'm not 100% sure about him counting, but I could see an argument either way. On one hand, he might be stupid enough to join his nephew on this wiki, but on the other hand, this could be a situation similar to Don Eladio (another Breaking Bad villain) or Adam (from Hazbin Hotel) where he is insufficiently dumb. Regardless, I'll give Jack a yes, but maybe a weak one. However, y'all can decide, but please keep it civil. Thanks for reading and have a great day.
