WARNING: Not only does this proposal contain major spoilers for Sonic the Hedgehog 3, but there are disturbing depictions of child murder that readers may find upsetting.

As you can see, this corrupt soldier is creating the Big Bad of the third Sonic movie known as Professor Gerald Robotnik.
“ | Commander Walters: What are you doing?! Those are children! STAND DOWN! Soldier: WE'VE GOT OUR ORDERS, WALTERS! |
„ |
~ I mean, come on. You may have been instructed by the government to kill Gerald and Shadow, but you were aiming at a child. That doesn't sound very pragmatic to me. |
Oh? What's this? A PP from the Sonic Cinematic Universe? Well, as surprising as it may be to y'all, this guy might have a chance. Obviously, Ivo, Gerald, Shadow, and Agent Stone are far from counting because they're smart in their own ways, but the soldier who turned Gerald into the villain he is now? He's a completely different story. However, consider this a warning: There is a distressing reference to killing children in this proposal, so if you're sensitive, I highly recommend you stop reading and vote on another proposal as that topic may make some feel uncomfortable. Other than that...
Let the discussion begin!
What's the Work?[]
The Sonic Cinematic Universe is a franchise created by Paramount which consists of 3 movies, some tie-in comics, a spin-off TV series and a few novelizations. It's about the titular blue hedgehog himself as he loses his adopted mother Longclaw and is sent to Earth to stop the mad scientist known as Dr. Ivo Robotnik. Along the way, he bonds with the Wachowski family and befriends a young fox named Tails and an aggressive echidna named Knuckles. Together, the 3 of them become Team Sonic and have each other's backs to take down their enemies.
Who is He?[]
The unnamed G.U.N. soldier is the overarching antagonist of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, the third film in the series. As his name implies, he is a man who works for G.U.N. who was sent by the government to detain Gerald Robotnik and Shadow the Hedgehog due to the latter's dangerous scale of power. Despite this, he took the life of Gerald's granddaughter Maria Robotnik just to spite him, even when Commander Walters demanded him to leave her alone, which led to Gerald and Shadow harboring a hatred of humanity and attempting to destroy Earth with the Eclipse Cannon to avenge Maria.
Is He Pathetic?[]
I think so. While he doesn't have a lot of screentime, he is one of the worst villains in the series from what we've seen. For starters, he raided Gerald's base to detain him, which endangered the lives of Shadow and Maria in the process. Alongside his team of soldiers, he chased the trio through a corridor to capture them before pointing his gun at them with the intent to kill. Commander Walters was horrified upon seeing this, and he desperately ran over to the soldier while pushing some other guys out of the way before ordering the soldier to spare Maria as she is just a young girl. The solider, being an impulsive and violent jackass, refuses to listen and justifies his action as "following orders" before firing his gun at Maria, only to miss and hit an energy tank instead. This mistake proved to be fatal, as it caused an explosion that killed Maria and presumably several other people.
It's unknown what happened to the soldier after this, but he was either kicked out of G.U.N. by Walters for killing a child or murdered by Shadow alongside his fellow soldiers. Either way, his actions proved to have a massive impact on the series, as Gerald's mentality was broken due to the loss of his beloved granddaughter, and he ultimately became an NPE villain who killed Walters and tried to wipe out all life on Earth to avenge his only loved one. As for Shadow, he was put in stasis for 50 years and implicitly relived Maria's death the entire time, and when he was freed, he was moulded a villain like Gerald and committed other heinous acts like knowingly helping the professor in his plan to destroy the world and nearly killing Tom Wachowski, a police sheriff maintaining the law and Sonic's adoptive father.
So yeah, I'd say he's pathetic.
What Makes Him a Pinhead?[]
He's not ridiculously dumb, but he is enough of an idiot:
- While it's true that the government issued him an order to shoot Gerald and Maria, the movie clearly goes against his actions as Commander Walters couldn't stand the thought of someone hurting a child and went out of his way to try and stop the soldier from killing Maria, rendering his actions too vile to be excused. It doesn't help that the other soldiers attempt to hold him back as well, showing that not even they would ever deliberately kill children.
- He is shown to be needlessly reckless, as he actively disobeyed Walters' demands to spare Maria and shouted at him before firing his gun anyway, only to miss his target and hit an energy tank and, as a result, blow up the G.U.N. facility thanks to his impulsiveness.
- Although his fate is ultimately inconclusive, he had no chance of getting away with his crimes either way, as he may have survived the explosion but lost his job due to killing Maria. Alternatively, he is implied to have been killed by Shadow, who was furious at the soldier for causing the death of his best (and only) friend.
- Overall, if he had just listened to Walters and left Gerald, Shadow and Maria alone, the events of the third movie would have never happened as Gerald and Shadow wouldn't have even turned into villains in the first place considering that Maria's death is their motivation for becoming evil.
- Basically, all the bad things they do is the soldier's fault, meaning his unwarranted cruelty leads to problems that are traced back to him.
Final Verdict[]
All in all, he's a weak yes but I'll leave the voting up to y'all. Thanks for reading and have a great day.
Oh, and here's a heads-up: My highly anticipated reproposal for Sergeant Major Gross from Attack On Titan is coming out on Friday this upcoming week, so stay tuned for that.
