| “ | Wyald: "Do as your wilt"... That's the only commandment for our apostles! Even if I wring him to death right here, no one should have any reason to complain! Even if he is the fifth one! Zodd: That's right, and if I rip you open here and now, that too is my free will. |

Wyald is a major antagonist in the Golden Age Arc of Berserk. He is a human who turned into an Apostle and leads a band called the Black Dog Knights. Eventually, he was knighted by the King of Midland to kill Griffith and the Band of the Hawk.
What Makes Him Pathetic?[]
- He sacrificed someone he loved in order to become an Apostle. And while it's implied this was done to escape poor health, it is not played for sympathy whatsoever and his heinous actions override it.
- He then goes on to commit many vile crimes like killing Barbo on the top of a tower and murdering one of his own mistresses after they have sex. After assembling an army called the Black Dog Knights, he enables them to do whatever they want without consequences, leading to countless people being robbed, raped and killed by them.
- He leads an attack on a farm full of inhabitants and goes as far as BURNING CHILDREN TO DEATH. After the attack, he and his army put the villagers' body parts on their weapons to symbolise the threat they pose.
- He forces his men to cross a bridge rigged with booby traps, getting nearly all of them killed as a result. He even kills one of his soldiers for objecting to this.
- He then kills the remaining Black Dog Knights for being cowards and attempts to rape Casca after scaring her moments prior.
- After catching the Band of the Hawk by surprise and taking Griffith hostage, he mocks them and attempts to kill their leader for not having the Crimson Beherit to activate the Eclipse to save his own life. Even when Nosferatu Zodd kills him, he tries to claim that he was following the "Do as thou will" rule of the God Hand...but Zodd doesn't buy it and puts an end to his miserable life.
What Makes Him a Pinhead?[]
- He thinks that the best way to gain the respect of the King of Midland's convicts is to kill Barbo in front of them by impaling him on a tower's spire, even though he would only be feared or even despised for his act.
- He is very blatant about his sick tendencies, having sex with any woman he comes across whether they're willing to engage in sexual activities with him or not.
- Dismembering the farm's villagers and putting their skewed body parts on his weapons would give off clues as to who he and his band are, so if they were to run into the wrong person, they would be exposed as cold-blooded killers.
- He constantly kills his own men (leaving him with very few allies) and lets their comrades be slaughtered by Guts, causing them to continue advancing.
- He has his soldiers go over a booby-trapped bridge, which gets the overwhelming majority of them killed.
- He takes Griffith hostage and mangles him before showing the damage to his band members, even though it would be nigh-impossible for them to regain their glory with Griffith as their leader. Later on, he seriously attempts to murder Griffith even though he is the future fifth member of the God Hand, therefore displaying his complete lack of loyalty.
- In the end, it's his cowardice that causes his death as after being stabbed by Zodd, he makes a superficial attempt to convince him that he was following one of the God Hand's rules, to which Zodd obviously doesn't buy and kills Wyald instead.
Trivia[]
- He, Gennon, and Adon Corborlwiltz are the three Berserk characters to be approved as Pathetic Pinheads. Coincidentally, all of them are Hate Sinks.
